In a surprising turn of events,Tesla is reportedly poised to integrate Apple CarPlay into its vehicles, reversing a long-held stance from CEO Elon Musk [[1]]. The potential addition, currently under development and testing, marks a significant concession to consumer demand and comes as competition intensifies within the electric vehicle market. While details remain limited, sources indicate the standard CarPlay version is slated for release, likely as an optional add-on, perhaps before the end of the year.

Tesla is reportedly preparing to add Apple CarPlay to its vehicles in a software update expected before the end of the year, a significant shift in strategy from CEO Elon Musk, who has long resisted integrating the platform. The move comes after apparent discussions between Tesla and Apple executives, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

For years, Musk has maintained that Tesla’s in-house infotainment systems are comprehensive enough to not require third-party services like CarPlay. However, the potential inclusion of CarPlay signals a possible response to consumer demand and a bid to bolster vehicle sales, particularly as competition in the electric vehicle market intensifies.

Tesla Reconsiders CarPlay After Years of Resistance

Sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Bloomberg, indicate that Tesla is currently testing the integration and aims to launch it in the coming months. While neither Tesla nor Apple has issued official statements, the report suggests a potential compromise between the two tech giants.

Tesla is expected to implement the standard version of Apple CarPlay, rather than the more advanced ‘Ultra’ version that extends functionality to the instrument cluster. The integration will, however, support wireless connectivity. The decision to offer CarPlay as an optional feature aligns with the approach taken by many other automakers.

Tesla dejaría entrar, por fin, a Apple en su sistema multimedia.

Customers may be able to select CarPlay as an add-on during vehicle configuration or through the central multimedia system’s app store. With CarPlay, Tesla drivers will gain access to popular Apple applications such as iMessage, Apple Music, and Apple Maps, complementing Tesla’s existing offerings like Spotify and a navigation system based on Google Maps.

The move comes as automakers increasingly recognize the importance of CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A 2024 survey by McKinsey & Co revealed that 30% of prospective electric vehicle buyers consider these connectivity features when making a purchase decision.

While some manufacturers, including Rivian and, recently, General Motors, are choosing to develop proprietary systems, the availability of CarPlay and Android Auto is becoming increasingly standard, even in more affordable models like the recently updated SEAT Ibiza, which starts at around €15,000.
