Toyota’s Woven City Officially Launches as Mobility Test Course
Toyota’s Woven City in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, has officially launched as a real-world test course for mobility innovations, marking a key step in the company’s transformation into a mobility provider. The launch event, held on September 25, 2025, brought together key stakeholders as residents began moving in and partner companies initiated co-creation efforts. This development underscores Toyota’s commitment to exploring future transportation solutions.
Woven City is designed as a collaborative community focused on enhancing well-being through advancements in the movement of people, goods, information, and energy. The project aims to address everyday societal challenges through the development and testing of new products and services. Toyota Woven City is driven by a shared passion to enhance well-being for all.
The initiative will serve as a platform for “Inventors” – including Toyota and Toyota Group companies like WbyT, as well as external companies, startups, and entrepreneurs – to develop, test, and validate innovative mobility solutions. According to company statements, the focus is on creating a test course for mobility where these innovators can refine their offerings.
Phase 1 construction of Woven City was completed in January 2025, paving the way for the launch and the beginning of real-world testing. Recent updates from December 22, 2025, include the availability of interviews from “VOICES of Woven City 2025.” The project represents a significant investment in future technologies and a strategic move for Toyota as it expands beyond traditional automotive manufacturing.
The launch follows an initial period of preparation and construction, and signals the start of a new phase where the city will function as a living laboratory for mobility solutions. Toyota and WbyT hosted the launch event.
