Teen Driver McKee Leads TA2 Championship into Barber Motorsports Park
Fifteen-year-old Tristan McKee will carry a 152-point lead in the Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series standings to Barber Motorsports Park this weekend for the penultimate event of the 2025 season, as the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli makes its debut at the Alabama track.
McKee, driving the No. 28 Spire/Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro, has secured three wins this season, and a strong finish at Barber could all but guarantee him the championship title. Fellow TeamSLR driver Sam Corry remains within striking distance, needing to finish within 109 points of McKee on Sunday to maintain a mathematical chance at the championship. The event also marks the return of Hendrick Motorsports driver Corey Day to TeamSLR, alongside Pro-Am competitor Naz Olkhovskyi.
TeamSLR boasts a five-race winning streak, with victories from McKee, Carson Brown, and veteran Mike Skeen. “I’m ready,” said McKee. “I made some laps there in a test car and the track seems super fun. It’s kind of more toward my style, like a Mid-Ohio kind of track where it’s just super flowy.” Day, who recently achieved a career-high fourth-place finish in the Xfinity Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, added, “Our stuff has been good off the truck all year, which is definitely helpful.” You can find more information about the Trans Am Series on their official website.
The Barber SpeedTour weekend begins Friday with practice sessions, followed by qualifying on Saturday and the 42-lap race on Sunday, which will be broadcast live on Speed Sport 1 and streamed on the Trans Am YouTube channel. TeamSLR will also honor the memories of Barry Boes and Tom Ellis this weekend, both of whom recently passed away.
Officials stated that the event represents a significant expansion for the Trans Am Series, bringing its exciting brand of racing to a new audience and track.
