Several airlines have suspended flights to and from Venezuela following a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warning of a potentially hazardous situation in the country’s airspace. The move comes as the Trump administration reportedly prepares a new phase of operations aimed at removing Nicolás Maduro from power.
According to sources within the U.S. administration, President Donald Trump is ready to move forward with covert operations targeting Maduro’s government in the coming days. The FAA issued its warning on Friday, November 21, citing “threats [that] could pose a potential risk to aircraft at all altitudes, including during overflight, arrival and departure phases of flight.”

Officials stated that the president is prepared to “utilize all resources of U.S. power to stop the drugs from coming into our country and to bring those responsible to justice.” This escalation in rhetoric and potential action comes amid ongoing U.S. concerns about the flow of illegal narcotics through Venezuela. The development underscores growing regional tensions and the potential for further instability in the region.
Two additional officials revealed that the Trump administration has been evaluating options related to Venezuela to combat what they describe as Maduro’s role in supplying illegal drugs that have resulted in American deaths. “The options under consideration included attempting to oust Maduro,” Reuters reported. However, the news agency noted it could not determine the precise timing or scope of the new operations, nor whether President Trump had made a final decision to act.

Airlines Cancel Flights to and From Venezuela
The FAA’s warning, issued on Friday, November 21, highlighted a “potentially hazardous situation in the Maiquetía flight information region” of Venezuela. The agency stated that “threats could pose a potential risk to aircraft at all altitudes, including during overflight, arrival and departure phases of flight.”
In response, several airlines, including Iberia, Avianca, and LATAM, decided to suspend flights to and from Venezuela. While the FAA’s warning does not prohibit flights to Venezuela, it requires airlines operating to the country to provide 72 hours’ notice and specific operational details. According to the FAA, this information “will be critical for the Aerocivil to establish an official, unified and coordinated response framework.”
