Vice President Victoria Villarruel left open the possibility of running for president in Argentina’s 2027 elections during a visit to Santa Cruz on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Speaking to reporters in Caleta Olivia, Villarruel said she had not yet decided on a candidacy, stating, “No lo sé, no lo sé; todavía es muy temprano para afirmar algo así.”
She acknowledged internal tensions within the ruling coalition, telling journalists that “falta unión” and urging all factions to work together to resolve differences.
“Para eso hay que trabajar todos, todos; no solo algunos,” she added, emphasizing the need for broader cooperation across the officialist bloc.
Villarruel’s remarks came amid growing speculation about her political future and increasing friction with President Javier Milei’s administration.
Her potential candidacy has raised concerns within libertarian circles that a divided vote could weaken the ruling party’s electoral prospects in 2027.
During her trip to Santa Cruz, Villarruel similarly engaged with local authorities, union leaders and business representatives as part of a broader outreach effort in the region.
