Wichita Woman Contacts Police After Video Shows Apparent Abduction
A woman seen in a surveillance video appearing to be forcibly pulled away by a man outside a Wichita home on Sunday has contacted authorities, police announced today.
Investigators received a phone call around 3 p.m. from the woman identifying herself as the individual in the video, according to a statement from the Wichita Police Department. Detectives immediately located the woman and brought her to City Hall for an interview. The incident occurred in the 1400 block of North Volusia. The case highlights the importance of public awareness in identifying potential victims of domestic violence.
Police now believe the incident was a case of domestic violence involving the woman and her boyfriend, and she sustained no significant injuries. “At this stage of the investigation, we believe this incident is a case of domestic violence where the female was victimized by her boyfriend,” the department stated. The 20-second Ring doorbell video, recorded around 2 a.m. Sunday, showed the woman resisting as a man pulled her out of view. Authorities emphasized there is no ongoing danger to the public, despite the widespread attention the video received on social media. The Wichita Police Department thanked the public for their assistance, stating that the shared video likely prompted the woman to come forward. Detectives are continuing interviews and will present the case to the District Attorney’s office for charging consideration.
