Zaragoza’s mayor, Natalia Chueca, spent Monday, December 24th, expressing gratitude to essential workers for their dedication during the holiday season, particularly on Christmas Eve. Many of these workers are foregoing time with their families to ensure the city continues to function smoothly.
Chueca visited several key facilities throughout the morning, including the water purification plant, the Domingo Miral Local Police headquarters, Fire Station No. 1, the Municipal Shelter, Casa Amparo residence, and the Hermandad de El Refugio. At each location, she personally thanked those on duty for their commitment to public service.
The mayor also extended her appreciation to other public safety and healthcare personnel throughout Zaragoza. “While many celebrate at home, there are those who sustain the city with their work,” Chueca stated. “Zaragoza is a strong, supportive, and humane city thanks to its public workers.”
Chueca highlighted that the spirit of Christmas is especially meaningful when considering those in need, such as the homeless, the elderly, and individuals living alone. The city government is responding with several initiatives, including preparing 200 Christmas Eve dinners for vulnerable families. A gala meal was also planned for Monday at the Laín Entralgo community center for elderly residents who live alone.
Acknowledging the year-round commitment of essential workers, Chueca emphasized the collective effort required to provide services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026. This display of support underscores the importance local leaders place on recognizing the sacrifices made by public servants during the holidays.
