Ten Hospitalized, Nine with Life-Threatening Injuries, After Train Stabbing in England

Ten people were hospitalized, nine with life-threatening injuries, following a mass stabbing on a London-bound train yesterday evening, prompting a major investigation supported by counter-terrorism police.

British Transport Police confirmed the incident occurred on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross as it approached Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. Two individuals were arrested at the scene, located approximately 75 miles north of London, according to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, which responded to a call at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday. The “Plato” code – used when responding to potential marauding terror attacks – was initially activated but later rescinded.

“We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further,” said Chief Superintendent Chris Casey. “At this early stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident.” The attack has caused significant disruption to rail services, with London North Eastern Railway urging passengers not to travel. This incident raises concerns about security on public transportation networks across the UK.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated his “thoughts are with all those affected” following the “appalling incident.” Paul Bristow, the mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, reported hearing of “horrendous scenes” on the train. Further updates will be provided as the investigation, led by Counter Terrorism Policing, progresses.
