Clelin Ferrell Works Out for San Francisco 49ers After Recent Release
Defensive end Clelin Ferrell had a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers today, October 29, 2025, as the team continues to evaluate potential additions to their defensive line.
Ferrell participated in the workout alongside linebacker Andrew Lane, defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, and defensive end Casey Toohill. The 49ers recently acquired Keion White in a trade with the New England Patriots, but continue to assess all available options. Ferrell was originally the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders and started 17 games for the 49ers last season.
Most recently, Ferrell played for the Washington Commanders in 2024, starting 10 games before being released in late August. He then signed with the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad on September 18, but was released on October 14. The 49ers are currently seeking depth at defensive end following injuries to key players, making this tryout particularly significant. Ferrell’s experience as a former first-round pick and his recent starting role with multiple teams could provide a valuable asset to any team needing help on the defensive line. The 49ers will evaluate Ferrell’s performance during the tryout before deciding whether to offer him a contract, as reported by ESPN.
The 49ers have not yet announced a decision regarding Ferrell, and will continue evaluating candidates.
