Hawaii Protests Planned Against Trump Administration
The ACLU of Hawaii, alongside national and local partners, is organizing protests against the Trump administration on October 18, with events scheduled on both Maui and Oahu.
Organizers aim to build on the momentum from a nationwide day of action held in June, which reportedly drew over 5 million participants protesting the Trump administration’s policies. According to the ACLU of Hawaii, more than 2,300 events are planned across the country. A local rally, dubbed “No Dictators,” will take place from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in front of the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului, Maui, as advertised by Maui Indivisible.
These demonstrations come as the Trump administration continues to face scrutiny over a range of policies, including immigration and environmental regulations, impacting communities nationwide. The planned protests reflect ongoing political activism and dissent in the wake of the 2016 election and subsequent policy changes; similar demonstrations have become a regular feature of the political landscape. Further details about events on Oahu can be found on the ACLU of Hawaii’s website.
Officials have stated they are prepared to facilitate peaceful demonstrations while ensuring public safety.
