Tom McKibbin secured a historic victory at the Hong Kong Open yesterday, earning him a coveted invitation to the 2025 Masters Tournament and a place in The Open Championship.
The 22-year-old golfer from Holywood, Northern Ireland, led the prestigious Asian Tour event at Fanling from the first round, finishing with a remarkable 27 under par after a final-round 63 in warm, overcast conditions. McKibbin’s consistent performance throughout the tournament culminated in a win that significantly elevates his profile in the world of professional golf. He began the week with a course record-breaking 60 on Thursday, setting the stage for his triumph.
“I played some of the best golf I’ve ever played, so to shoot those scores around here is pretty special,” McKibbin said. “For a tournament with so much history behind it and great players who have won this tournament, to have the scoring record is pretty special and it’s something that will live with me forever.” He added, “I dreamt of doing this since I was a young kid, and they come true if you train hard enough.” McKibbin currently competes on the LIV Golf Tour and previously achieved a win on the European Tour in 2023.
This victory marks a significant milestone in McKibbin’s career, providing him with opportunities to compete on the highest stages of golf.
