Velocity Startups to Launch in Atlanta’s Historic Biltmore Building
A new early-stage accelerator, Velocity Startups, will establish its headquarters in Atlanta’s Tech Square, bridging the gap between research and viable startups and further solidifying the city’s position as a national tech hub.
The accelerator, a subsidiary of Georgia Advanced Technology Ventures, will operate in partnership with the City of Atlanta and serve Georgia Tech students, faculty, researchers, and the broader Atlanta community. Velocity Startups aims to connect entrepreneurs with mentorship, space, funding, and access to Georgia Tech’s extensive research resources. Many startups completing the CREATE-X Startup Launch program will gain access to the accelerator’s resources. This initiative comes as Atlanta continues to attract significant venture capital funding and experience rapid growth in its technology sector.
“Atlanta is where innovation becomes opportunity, and Velocity Startups will make that journey even faster,” said Donnie Beamer, senior technology advisor in the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation. “By connecting entrepreneurs to the critical resources they need to scale, we are fueling more startups, creating more jobs, and driving economic growth.” Velocity Startups will also coordinate with over 50 colleges in the Metro Atlanta area and advocate for policies supporting startup success, according to officials.
Raghupathy “Siva” Sivakumar, vice president of commercialization and chief commercialization officer at Georgia Tech and president of Georgia Advanced Technology Ventures, stated, “Velocity Startups represents a pivotal step in bringing together the resources, expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit within our ecosystems…This accelerator enables the communities at Georgia Tech and beyond to translate groundbreaking research into high-impact ventures.” A national search for a director to lead the accelerator is currently underway, with more information available at the Georgia Tech commercialization website.
