Before its widely lauded full release, Baldur’s Gate III spent considerable time in Early Access, allowing players to shape the game’s progress-and leaving behind a wealth of content that didn’t make the final cut. Now,a modding effort is underway to restore some of that lost material. A new mod, “Early Access Scenes Restored,” created by HyperspaceTowel, is bringing back over 1,000 lines of dialog and 100 cutscenes, offering players a glimpse into the game’s evolving vision and a richer experience with companions like Lae’zel, Gale, Astarion, and Shadowheart.
It’s easy to forget, given the massive scale the game reached upon its full launch, that Baldur’s Gate III spent years in Early Access on Steam. That initial release only allowed players to experience the first act, and even then, the content differed significantly from the final product. However, it contained promising ideas that Larian Studios ultimately decided to move away from.
Now, thanks to the work of modder HyperspaceTowel, much of that previously unseen content is being restored with the “Early Access Scenes Restored” mod. The mod primarily focuses on expanding companion reactivity, adding new dialogue lines for Lae’zel, Gale, Astarion, and Shadowheart. While Wyll and Karlach are partially excluded due to having different voice actors during the Early Access period, some audio for those characters has been recovered.

The modder plans to restore additional scenes in future updates, but already boasts over 100 conversions and 1,000 lines of restored dialogue. You can find the mod on Nexus Mods, where you can also track the progress of bringing back the Baldur’s Gate III Early Access experience. This allows players to revisit earlier iterations of the game, now largely free of the bugs that plagued the initial release.
