Monforte de Lemos is set to host the second annual Calasancio Cup youth soccer tournament this Christmas,drawing under-14 teams from across Spain and Portugal. Monforte de Lemos, December 16, 2025 – The city of Monforte de Lemos will host the second annual Calasancio Cup this Christmas, bringing together some of the top under-14 youth soccer teams from across the Iberian Peninsula. The tournament, organized by CP Calasancio in collaboration with the Monforte City Council, will be held over two dates – December 27th and January 3rd – and will feature clubs from Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, and Portugal.
The sporting event was unveiled this Tuesday at Monforte City Hall, with Deputy Mayor Gloria Prada, Sports Councilor José Manuel Mougán, and CP Calasancio de Monforte President Juan Carlos Díaz all in attendance.
Deputy Mayor Prada highlighted the City Council’s support for the tournament, having collaborated on the inaugural edition as well. She affirmed that the event “positions our city as a prominent destination within youth soccer.” This support, which includes providing sports facilities and trophies, “reflects the Mayor and this Government Team’s commitment to promoting grassroots sports in Monforte, and in this case, to developmental soccer and our young athletes.”
The II Calasancio Cup will take place at the Álex Blanco, Luis Bodegas, and A Pinguela soccer fields in Monforte. The competition will showcase top clubs from Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, and Northern Portugal, “offering a highly competitive lineup and, therefore, an opportunity for fans of youth sports to enjoy a demanding and educational tournament,” Prada noted. “It’s a source of pride for Monforte,” she added, as well as an excellent opportunity to increase visibility, promote the city, and stimulate economic activity.
A Preliminary Round Featuring 12 Teams and 250 Athletes
CP Calasancio President Juan Carlos Díaz detailed the competition format, which will begin with a preliminary round on December 27th, followed by a final phase on January 3rd.
The preliminary round, held at the Álex Blanco facilities, will feature 12 under-14 teams comprising approximately 250 athletes. These teams will battle for a single qualifying spot in the final bracket, ensuring an intense and exciting start to the tournament.
The champion of the preliminary round will advance to the final phase, where they will face some of the best youth academies from Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, and Northern Portugal – a true test for developing clubs and players.
The teams competing in the preliminary round are: CP Calasancio B, ED Calasancio, ED Val Miñor B, CD Calasanz B, CA Arteixo, Pabellón Promesas, ADC Sagrado Corazón, Rayo 21 CF, Ural CF B, EF Lalín, EDC Barbadás, and AD Piringalla.
The Final Phase: A Showcase of Under-14 Talent
The winner of the preliminary round will have the chance to compete against the region’s top youth academies in the final phase, which will feature a total of 20 teams. This phase will be held at the Álex Blanco, Luis Bodegas, and A Pinguela facilities on January 3rd, bringing together 500 athletes and coaches to Monforte. “Considering that most players are accompanied by family members, we anticipate over a thousand people visiting Monforte,” Díaz emphasized, highlighting the event’s ability to attract teams, players, and families from various regions.
The CP Calasancio President explained that the final phase “will bring together the best Galician academies along with invited teams from Portugal, Asturias, and Castilla y León, creating a unique lineup that establishes the tournament as one of the most prestigious under-14 soccer competitions.”
