Cerundolo to Face Sinner in Paris Masters Quarterfinal Bid

Francisco Cerundolo will challenge World No. 2 Jannik Sinner today in Paris for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Rolex Paris Masters.

The Argentine, currently ranked No. 21, is looking to add to his impressive record against top-ranked opponents, having already secured five career wins against players in the Top 5. Cerundolo has previously defeated Sinner, taking him down in Rome in 2023, but acknowledges the Italian’s current form presents a significant challenge. A win for either player has implications for the year-end ATP rankings and seeding at the upcoming Nitto ATP Finals.

“He’s one of the best in the world, without a doubt, alongside Carlos [Alcaraz],” Cerundolo said Wednesday. “They’ve been dominating the tour for two to three years… It’ll be an amazing test. Hopefully I can play great tennis because he’ll demand everything from me.” Cerundolo has been regaining form after an abdominal injury earlier this year, and feels prepared for the contest. He currently holds a 15-18 record against Top 10 players, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

Sinner is widely considered one of the top players on the tour, and Cerundolo recognizes the need for aggressive play. “He’s the best ballstriker on tour right now,” Cerundolo stated. “I’ll have to serve very well, play very aggressively, dictate the points as much as I can because he’ll push me to the limit.” Fans can find more information about the ATP Tour and its events on the official website.

The match is scheduled for Thursday night in Paris, and officials anticipate a closely contested battle between the two players.
