Chappell Roan Brings Sold-Out Tour to Kansas City, Celebrates Midwestern Roots

Kansas City, Mo. – Pop singer Chappell Roan concluded a two-night, sold-out run at the National WWI Museum and Memorial yesterday, as part of a highly exclusive tour that included only three cities: New York, Los Angeles, and Kansas City.

The “Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things” tour stop was particularly meaningful as it took place in Roan’s home state of Missouri, and the city embraced the singer with widespread displays of support. Downtown buildings were illuminated in pink, reminiscent of her “Pink Pony Club” aesthetic, a mural of Roan was painted near Hamburger Mary’s – where she experienced her first drag show – and the city’s streetcar was wrapped in a special “Pink Pony Express” design. Local bars and restaurants also created special menu items to honor her visit.

Roan performed to crowds of 30,000 each night, featuring local drag performers Karmella Uchawi and Minti Varieties, alongside musical acts Japanese Breakfast and Baby Tate, as openers. During the concert, Roan addressed the importance of queer joy, especially in the Midwest, stating, “I know it can be hard growing up queer in the Midwest, and that with all that’s going on in the world, bringing the queer community joy is the most important thing to me at the moment.” She added that seeing Kansas City’s enthusiastic response affirmed she was “doing exactly what I was meant to be doing.” This outpouring of support highlights the growing visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ+ artists and fans in the region. Fans traveled from across the country, including from St. Louis and Colorado, to attend the concerts, many donning pink attire and elaborate costumes. The event underscored Kansas City’s growing reputation as a vibrant cultural hub. City officials stated they are exploring ways to continue fostering a welcoming environment for artists and the LGBTQ+ community, building on the momentum generated by Roan’s visit.
