Batavia Chiropractor Charged with Secretly Recording Over 180 Patients
A suburban Chicago chiropractor has been charged with secretly recording video of more than 180 patients, including some who were underage, authorities announced today.
David Hanson, of Batavia, Illinois, faces multiple counts of unauthorized video surveillance and distribution of child pornography, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. The alleged recordings took place at Hanson’s chiropractic practice. Investigators began looking into Hanson after receiving a tip earlier this year, leading to the discovery of numerous video files. The unauthorized recordings represent a severe breach of patient trust and medical privacy.
Authorities allege the recordings depict patients in various states of undress, and include images of minors. “This is a disturbing case involving a significant violation of privacy and trust,” stated a spokesperson for the Kane County State’s Attorney. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible. Individuals concerned about potential exposure can find resources regarding online safety and exploitation through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Hanson is currently being held in the Kane County Jail. He is expected to appear in court next week. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has emphasized the commitment to prosecuting those who exploit vulnerable individuals.
Prosecutors stated they are working to identify and notify all individuals who may have been victims in this case.
