Developers are increasingly demonstrating the technical ambition behind Crimson Desert, an upcoming open-world action RPG. The game is powered by the studio’s proprietary engine, BlackSpace Engine, and Digital Foundry recently had the opportunity to test a native 4K PC version with Ultra settings. Despite being a work in progress, initial impressions are noteworthy.
Alex Battaglia from Digital Foundry noted (as transcribed by EGW):
“This is obviously a work in progress with ultra-high settings, at native 4K, but it’s running pretty well. It’s definitely running quite differently than many Unreal Engine games would do at native 4K.”
The performance of Crimson Desert is particularly interesting as game developers continue to push the boundaries of visual fidelity and engine technology. Further testing will be needed to determine how the game will perform at launch, and how the console versions will stack up.
