American Tourist Dies in Knife Attack in Portugal
One American man died and another was seriously injured in a knife attack in Cascais, Portugal yesterday, October 15, 2024, authorities reported.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. as a 34-year-old American man was walking back to his hotel when he was approached by three suspects. A verbal altercation began when one suspect attempted to touch the victim’s hat, escalating into punches to the face after the victim asked them to stop. The victim then contacted a friend, a 35-year-old American man, for assistance.
Upon arrival, the friend was attacked alongside the first victim; one of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed both men in the face, arms, and back. The 34-year-old victim sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, while his friend died at the scene. The surviving victim is now recovering and is no longer in critical condition. Portuguese authorities quickly apprehended the three suspects. A 23-year-old Portuguese man, employed at a nearby bar and with no prior criminal record, has been charged with homicide. The other two suspects may face assault charges.
