Dubai is bolstering its sports management education infrastructure through a new partnership between the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDIDFA) and Middlesex University Dubai. The collaboration, formalized through a recent Memorandum of Understanding, aims to develop specialized programs and enhance the skills of government employees in the rapidly growing sports sector. Major General Awad Al Aweem, Assistant Director General of Human Resources and Finance at GDIDFA, and Professor Zedwin Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University, signed the agreement.
A key component of the partnership will be the creation of a dedicated diploma program in sports management, combining academic rigor with practical training. This program will equip personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to manage sporting events and facilities effectively. GDIDFA stated that the joint curriculum, knowledge exchange, and evaluation systems will align with Middlesex University’s academic standards.
“The department always prioritizes the development of its employees,” said Major General Al Aweem. “This partnership will help create a knowledge-based work environment that supports Dubai’s development aspirations.”
Professor Fernandes also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that GDIDFA’s partnership will help develop an internationally recognized academic program. He added that the initiative, aligned with Dubai’s economic agenda D33, will contribute to innovation within government services.
