Egyptian Singer Hamza Namira Reveals Son’s Harrowing Health Battle, Own Anxiety Treatment
Egyptian singer Hamza Namira publicly shared details of a frightening health crisis involving his son, Tameem, when he was eight years old, and his subsequent decision to seek psychotherapy to cope with the resulting anxiety.
Namira recounted the ordeal in a recent interview, explaining that the family was in London when Tameem suddenly developed a high fever. Despite a hospital visit, antibiotics were not initially administered. Doctors later suspected the child might have Kawasaki disease, a rare autoimmune condition requiring treatment within seven days of symptom onset, after discovering swelling in his hand. The singer explained he and his wife were deeply concerned about the time-sensitive nature of the potential diagnosis.
Treatment with immunotherapy was attempted, but Tameem experienced a severe allergic reaction, causing uncontrollable tremors. Namira described the terrifying moment, stating his wife screamed and he rushed to find doctors as his son’s heart rate spiked. “At that moment, the child began to cry, and his heart rate rose sharply,” Namira recalled. After medication to counteract the allergic reaction stabilized his condition, doctors ultimately discontinued the Kawasaki disease treatment the following day, and a definitive diagnosis remains pending.
Namira also revealed that he and his son engaged in daily religious healing practices for a year and a half following the incident. This disclosure comes as mental health awareness grows within the Arab world, with increasing numbers of public figures speaking openly about their experiences with mental health challenges. He expressed hope that his son does not have the autoimmune disease, and the family continues to await further clarity from medical professionals regarding Tameem’s condition.
Doctors are continuing to monitor Tameem’s health and will provide further updates as they become available.
