Higgo Takes Lead at World Wide Technology Championship with Record-Tying Round

Garrick Higgo fired an 11-under 61 yesterday at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico, to take a one-stroke lead over Carson Young heading into the final round of the World Wide Technology Championship.

The 26-year-old South African matched the course record with a stellar performance that included an eagle on the par-5 first hole and five consecutive birdies on the front nine. He finished the day at 22-under 194 overall. “Hit it great, made a lot of good putts and chipped in once,” Higgo said. “Just everything was really solid and took advantage of the opportunities that I had.” This tournament is crucial for players vying to secure their PGA Tour cards for next season, as only the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings will retain full status.

Carson Young is one stroke behind Higgo after carding a 63, fueled by 11 birdies. Young, a former Clemson player seeking his first PGA Tour victory, expressed a sense of opportunity, noting his near-miss at this event last year. “Just keep doing what I’m doing and just focus on playing my game and not looking at the leaderboard too much or worrying about others,” Young stated. Several other players remain within striking distance, including Ryder Cup rookie Ben Griffin, Trevor Cone, and Chad Ramey, all two strokes back. A disastrous 12 on the par-4 15th hole marred Luke List’s round, resulting in an 85. The tournament is one of only three remaining events in the current season, adding significant pressure as players battle for position in the FedEx Cup standings. Officials stated that play will resume this morning with the final round.
