Jaylen Brown Faces Increased Pressure as Celtics Begin Preseason

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is preparing to shoulder a significantly larger role for the team as they begin their preseason schedule today, October 6, 2025, following a substantial offseason overhaul and a key injury.

The Celtics have undergone major changes in recent months, parting ways with Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Luke Kornet to create salary cap flexibility. Adding to the challenge, Jayson Tatum is expected to miss most of the season while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, leaving Brown as the primary offensive focus.

Brown, who is also returning from offseason knee surgery, acknowledged the demanding nature of training camp. “It’s intense,” Brown told reporters yesterday. “I think the coaching staff has done a good job of setting the tempo and pace of preseason. I think it’s probably been my hardest preseason that I’ve had from a conditioning standpoint and a physicality standpoint, but that’s what we’re gonna need this season.” Last season, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game, earning his third consecutive All-Star selection. The team’s success this season will heavily rely on his ability to elevate his performance.

Despite lowered expectations for the Celtics this season, Brown remains optimistic. The team’s ability to compete in the Eastern Conference will depend on how quickly Brown adapts to his expanded role and leads a revamped roster; you can find more information about the Celtics schedule on ESPN.

The Celtics will continue preseason training and exhibition games as they prepare for the start of the regular season, with coaching staff monitoring Brown’s progress and integration of new players.
