Portadown Job Fair Connects Residents with Local Employers

A job and careers fair held yesterday in Portadown brought together local employers, training providers, and jobseekers, aiming to address skills gaps and employment opportunities in the region.

The event, hosted by the Council’s Labour Market Partnership (LMP) in collaboration with the local Jobs and Benefits Office at the Millennium Court, featured representatives from a diverse range of sectors including retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and hospitality. Visitors were able to explore live vacancies, apprenticeships, and receive guidance on CV writing and interview skills. The LMP is funded by the Department for Communities and focuses on creating targeted employment plans for the area.

Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Jessica Johnston emphasized the fair’s importance, stating, “This Jobs and Careers Fair is about opening doors and making it easier for people in Portadown and beyond to access opportunities right on their doorstep. When we bring employers and talent together in one place, real connections are made.” The initiative is part of a series of similar events across the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon borough, reflecting a broader effort to boost local employment rates – a key indicator of regional economic health. More information about the Labour Market Partnership and its initiatives can be found on the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council website.

The next job fair in the series will take place on October 23rd at Banbridge Leisure Centre from 10:30am to 1:00pm. Officials encourage residents to take advantage of these opportunities to connect with potential employers and explore career pathways; further resources are available from the Northern Ireland Direct government website.
