Amazon MGM Studios Announces January 2026 Release for Melania Trump Documentary
Amazon MGM Studios announced today that a documentary focusing on Melania Trump, titled “Melania,” will be released exclusively in theaters on January 30, 2026, before streaming on Prime Video.
The film, which reportedly cost Amazon $40 million to acquire, offers a look at the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration through the perspective of the First Lady-elect. According to an official description, the documentary provides “unprecedented access” to inauguration planning, the White House transition, and Melania Trump’s return to public life with her family, featuring “exclusive footage” of meetings and private conversations. An accompanying three-part docuseries will follow Trump as she travels between Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago, and Washington, D.C.
The documentary is directed by Brett Ratner, known for films like “Rush Hour,” but whose career faced setbacks following sexual misconduct allegations reported by the Los Angeles Times in 2017. Ratner has not directed a major Hollywood production since then. Melania Trump herself is a producer on the film and participated in its creation; this level of access is unusual for a subject of a political documentary and could significantly shape public perception.
Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, attended Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration alongside other tech leaders, a detail that adds another layer of context to Amazon’s investment in this project. Studio officials stated the film will offer an intimate portrayal of a frequently enigmatic public figure.
Following the theatrical release, “Melania” will be available for streaming on Prime Video, with the docuseries to follow.
