Kai Trump to Make LPGA Debut at The Annika with Support from Family and Golfing Greats
Eighteen-year-old Kai Trump will make her professional debut on the LPGA Tour today at The Annika in Belleair, Florida, after receiving a sponsor’s exemption to compete against some of the world’s top golfers.
Trump, the granddaughter of former US President Donald Trump, is an amateur golfer currently ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association. She has played only three events this year but has benefitted from advice from both her grandfather and 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, who is in a relationship with her mother, Vanessa. “He is the best golfer in the entire world,” Kai Trump said of Woods. “And he’s an even better person. He told me to go out there, have fun, go with the flow.” Her grandfather reportedly told her simply, “Just don’t get nervous,” adding, “He’s running the world right now, so a little busy.”
The Annika will feature a strong field including world number two Nelly Korda, England’s Charley Hull, Lexi Thompson, and 2023 champion Lilia Vu. The LPGA noted that Trump’s participation and significant social media following – exceeding six million – are expected to broaden the sport’s appeal, particularly among younger audiences. This debut comes as the LPGA continues efforts to grow its fanbase and attract new players. Trump also recently launched her own apparel and lifestyle brand.
Kai Trump will tee off at 17:30 GMT. LPGA officials stated they believe her presence will help introduce golf to new audiences.
