Man Dies in Stabbing at Bronx Affordable Housing Complex
A 48-year-old man was fatally stabbed, and another injured, yesterday evening at a recently constructed apartment building in the Bronx.
Police responded to a 911 call at 341 East 162nd Street in the Melrose section of the Bronx at approximately 11:25 p.m. on November 9, 2025. Officers from the 42nd Precinct discovered the 48-year-old victim face down on a stairwell landing between the sixth and seventh floors, suffering from a stab wound to the neck. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene; his identity is being withheld pending family notification. A 39-year-old man was also found nearby with lacerations to his arm and was transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition.
A 33-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being questioned by police, though charges are still pending the outcome of the investigation. The building, completed in 2022, was designed to provide affordable housing options in the Bronx, a borough facing a significant housing shortage. Violent crime in residential buildings can erode community trust and impact residents’ sense of safety.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Police are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, according to a statement released by the New York Police Department.
