Donegal Man Pens Article to Encourage Men’s Mental Health Awareness, Supports Pieta Charity

A man from Ballybofey, County Donegal, is contributing to a campaign aimed at destigmatizing mental health challenges faced by men, with all proceeds benefiting the Irish charity Pieta.

Caolan Hennigan, a 24-year-old content creator, was approached by Leon Craine and Sonder magazine to share his personal experiences with mental health in a written piece. “I was over the moon when they told me about this campaign, as it is such an important topic to me,” Hennigan said. The initiative seeks to encourage open conversation and support among men struggling with their mental wellbeing.

Hennigan emphasized the collaborative nature of the effort, urging people to explore the work of other creators involved. “What we are trying to do is basically break some of the stigma regarding men’s mental health to encourage more men to speak out about it,” he explained. “We really want to help raise awareness for men’s mental health this November and to show other men out there that they are never alone.” The campaign comes as rates of male suicide remain disproportionately high across Ireland and the UK.

Pre-orders for the Sonder magazine, which features Hennigan’s article, are open until November 11. All funds raised will be donated to Pieta, a vital organization providing free, professional support to individuals experiencing suicidal distress, self-harm, or bereavement. You can find more information about mental health resources here.

Organizers say the magazine will be shipped to purchasers in the coming weeks, with a full accounting of funds raised to be published shortly thereafter.
