Marvel’s ‘Secret Wars’ Creative Process Revealed in New Behind-the-Scenes Book
A new project detailing the making of Marvel Comics’ 2015 Secret Wars event is underway, offering an unprecedented look at the creative decisions behind the storyline that reshaped the Marvel multiverse.
Behind the Panels of Secret Wars, a planned hardcover book, aims to reveal the backstory, development, scripts, and artwork of the 2015 crossover, featuring interviews with the editors, artists, and writers involved. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with over $7,000 pledged toward a $25,000 goal as of today, November 5, 2025. The book will include alternate covers and insights into concepts that didn’t make the final cut.
The 2015 Secret Wars event is considered essential reading for fans following the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the upcoming films Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to draw heavily from the source material. The comic depicted Doctor Doom rebuilding the multiverse in his image, a scenario that could play out in the films. Understanding the comic’s narrative is increasingly important as the MCU prepares to tackle complex multiversal storylines.
If fully funded, Behind the Panels: Secret Wars is slated for delivery in December 2026, coinciding with the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and arriving before Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Marvel plans to potentially expand the series to cover other landmark events if the initial book is successful, according to project details.
Project organizers stated that backers can unlock additional rewards, including artwork, 3D recreations of covers, and miniature collectibles, as funding increases.
