Disney Channels Remain Off YouTube TV as Dispute with Google Continues
Disney’s channels, including ESPN and ABC, are still unavailable on YouTube TV as of today, November 4, 2025, after the two companies failed to reach a new licensing agreement that expired October 30.
Despite Disney’s $200 billion market capitalization, analysts note it is significantly smaller than Google’s parent company, Alphabet, which boasts a market cap exceeding $3 trillion. Rich Greenfield, a partner and analyst at LightShed Partners, emphasized that the dispute poses a greater problem for Disney than for Google, stating, “No one is betting on the future of YouTube TV for their investment thesis in Google.” He further explained that the blackout could result in Disney losing 15% of its subscriber base across ESPN and ABC, calling it “a real problem” and “financially really painful” if unresolved.
The situation is particularly impactful for Disney because YouTube TV is a more crucial platform for its content distribution than vice versa for Google. However, analysts at NewStreet Research and EMARKETER point out that losing Disney content, specifically ESPN, represents a significant loss for YouTube TV. YouTube has offered subscribers a $20 credit as the outage continues, and data from US Apptopia shows a surge in downloads for competing streaming services like FuboTV, which saw an 88% increase from October 31 through Monday, while Hulu downloads increased by 33%.
Disney has alternative distribution channels, including Hulu + Live TV and a 70% stake in Fubo, as well as its standalone ESPN streaming service. Michael Morris, a Guggenheim analyst, believes a resolution is likely, stating, “The path of least resistance is to reach an agreement.” Google has publicly stated its commitment to growing YouTube TV subscriptions, currently ranked as the No. 4 pay-TV service in the US, and understands the importance of maintaining a comprehensive channel lineup.
Both companies acknowledge that a prolonged disruption is not beneficial, and negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days.
