Nvidia’s AI Investment Surge Continues, Topping Last Year’s Total
Nvidia has already participated in 50 venture capital deals in 2025, surpassing the 48 completed in all of 2024, as the company continues to aggressively invest in the expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The semiconductor giant’s investment activity, excluding those made through its NVentures fund, signals a deepening commitment to fostering innovation beyond its core business of high-performance graphics processing units. NVentures itself has significantly increased its pace, engaging in 21 deals this year compared to just one in 2022. Nvidia has stated its goal is to back startups considered “game changers and market makers.” Notable investments include backing OpenAI with a reported $100 million as part of a $6.6 billion round in October 2024, and committing up to $2 billion in equity to Elon Musk’s xAI. The company also led a $2 billion funding round for Reflection AI, a startup positioning itself as a competitor to Chinese AI firms.
Other significant investments this year include participation in funding rounds for Mistral AI ($2 billion), Figure AI (over $1 billion), Scale AI ($1 billion), and Cohere ($500 million). These investments span a wide range of AI applications, from large language models to robotics and data labeling services, reflecting Nvidia’s broad strategy. This level of investment demonstrates the critical role GPUs play in the development of modern AI, and the increasing demand for specialized hardware as AI models grow in complexity. Nvidia’s increased investment activity comes as the company’s market capitalization has soared to $4.5 trillion. Officials stated they will continue to seek out promising AI startups, and expect to see further opportunities for strategic partnerships and investments in the coming months.
