Oura Ring Adds ‘Cumulative Stress’ Tracking, Redesigns App

Oura today announced a new feature called Cumulative Stress, designed to measure the body’s long-term response to stress, alongside a significant redesign of its mobile app.

Cumulative Stress analyzes biometric data collected over the past month – including sleep continuity, heart rate response, sleep micromotions, temperature regulation, and activity impact – to provide a more comprehensive view of stress than previously available. This new metric was validated against the Perceived Stress Scale and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. According to Oura, these insights “highlight the often ‘hidden toll’ of unmanaged strain before it manifests as fatigue, burnout, or illness.” Understanding chronic stress is increasingly important as burnout rates continue to rise in many professions.

The app update introduces a redesigned “Today” tab, focusing on a “One Big Thing” – the most relevant daily insight, changing throughout the day. Cycle Insights, Oura’s fertility and menstrual tracking feature, now offers a 12-month view, requiring only one night of sleep data for personalized predictions, a significant improvement over the previous 60-night requirement. Oura is also exploring blood pressure monitoring and is working with the FDA, launching a Blood Pressure Profile study in the coming months to identify early signs of hypertension; learn more about high blood pressure from the CDC.

The app redesign and new features are rolling out globally in the coming weeks, and Oura plans to continue expanding its capabilities through Oura Labs. Officials stated that the study will provide users with feedback on whether there are minor, moderate, or major signs of hypertension.
