Rangers Secure Overtime Victory Against Oilers, Fueled by Depth Scoring

The New York Rangers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime yesterday, October 30, 2024, at Rogers Place, marking their second consecutive win and a crucial step in their four-game road trip.

J.T. Miller scored the game-winning goal 2:49 into the extra period, but the Rangers’ comeback was largely driven by contributions from players beyond their usual stars. Braden Schneider and Taylor Raddysh each scored in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 after the Oilers had taken a two-goal lead. “The third period was great,” Miller said after the game. “I didn’t have my best today. Obviously, changed the lines up a little bit, trying to spark something. We just had so many guys contribute.”

Jonny Brodzinski opened the scoring for the Rangers, netting his first goal of the season on a breakaway, before Edmonton responded with goals from Darnell Nurse and Matt Savoie. Raddysh’s team-leading fifth goal of the season, a wrist shot past Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner, proved pivotal. The Rangers’ power play continues to struggle, currently at 4-for-30 on the season, a statistic coach Mike Sullivan addressed by urging a “reset” during the second intermission. A strong showing on the road is vital as the Rangers attempt to climb the competitive NHL standings.

Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin was also instrumental in the victory, making key saves throughout the game. “That was a true team effort,” Miller added. “When they had their looks, [Igor Shesterkin] played awesome today.” The Rangers will continue their road trip Saturday night in Seattle, looking to build on this momentum.
