Falcons’ Michael Penix Jr. Evaluated After Taking Hits in Loss to 49ers
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. underwent evaluation following multiple low hits during yesterday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, raising concerns about his health as the team prepares for its next matchup.
The incidents occurred toward the end of the game, and Penix was seen entering the sideline medical tent for assessment. Head coach Raheem Morris addressed reporters after the game, stating, “Obviously, we’ve got to let him go get evaluated.” While Morris acknowledged the need for evaluation, he also noted Penix initially indicated he was alright. “He gave me the thumbs up on the sideline when we were asking him, so he was OK to finish,” Morris said.
Penix completed 21 of 38 passes for 241 yards with one touchdown and a lost fumble during Sunday’s contest. The Falcons’ quarterback situation is closely watched as they navigate a competitive NFC South division; a significant injury to Penix could impact their playoff hopes. Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins would likely start if Penix is unable to play in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins, according to NFL.com.
The team will assess Penix’s condition further today, and an update is expected tomorrow. For more on NFL player health and safety protocols, visit the NFL Player Health & Safety website.
