Ringo Starr Reflects on 60-Year Career, Recent Grammy Win

Beatles drummer and singer Ringo Starr is celebrating a remarkable six-decade career, marked by continued musical success and a recent Grammy Award, and shared reflections on his life and work in a new interview.

The 85-year-old musician discussed the enduring popularity of The Beatles’ music, noting, “Every generation listens to our music.” He highlighted the band’s continued success, stating, “We have sold records and streams now, a billion streams a week or whatever, forever!” This latest recognition comes 55 years after the band’s breakup, with their song “Now and Then” earning them a Grammy this year. Starr also touched upon overcoming serious childhood illnesses, recalling being told “Three times they told me, I’ll be dead in the morning,” and attributing his survival to a larger plan.

Beyond The Beatles, Starr continues to tour with his All-Star Band and recently released a number one country album, “Look Up.” He explained the album’s title, saying, “I love the atmosphere of ‘Look Up.’ We’re not looking down all the time. Let’s look up. It’s much better for you.” Starr also spoke about the origins of the phrase “peace and love,” connecting it to the flower power movement of the 1960s, a period he described as “such a great time to be around.” The enduring message of peace and love has become a central theme of his annual birthday celebrations, initiated at the request of his fans.
