Royal Family Honors Fallen at Remembrance Sunday Service

Members of the British Royal Family gathered at the Cenotaph in London today, November 9, 2025, to pay tribute to those who died in service to their country during the annual Remembrance Sunday service.

King Charles III led the wreath-laying ceremony, accompanied by the Prince of Wales, William, and the Duke of Edinburgh. The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence observed the day at the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney while on an official visit to Australia. Remembrance Sunday holds significant importance as a national moment of reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel.

Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales were among those watching from the balconies overlooking the memorial. Queen Camilla wore a diamond brooch representing The Rifles, of which she has been Colonel-in-Chief since 2020, securing three paper poppies to her coat. The Princess of Wales donned the badge of the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, named Commodore-in-Chief in 2023, and a handmade poppy crafted from silk, glass, and natural materials by Izzy Ager of Lock and Co. She also wore diamond and pearl drop earrings originally gifted to Princess Diana in 1981. You can learn more about the history of Remembrance Day traditions on the official Royal Family website.

Other members of the Royal Family in attendance included the Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, each displaying poppies and military insignia. Wreaths laid at the Cenotaph bore handwritten messages, including “In everlasting remembrance” from the King and Queen, and “In memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we will remember them” from the Prince and Princess of Wales. The service underscores the enduring commitment of the monarchy to honoring military service and sacrifice, a tradition dating back over a century.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Royal Family will continue to observe the two-minute silence tomorrow, November 10th, as a further mark of respect.
