prime Video is moving forward with its live-action “Tomb Raider” series, tapping “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner for potential leading role as Lara Croft. The adaptation of the popular video game franchise is gaining momentum with reports that Sigourney Weaver is in negotiations to join the cast, signaling a significant investment in star power for the project. Production, spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-bridge, is slated to begin in January as the demand for video game adaptations continues to rise across streaming platforms.

Sophie Turner, known for her role in “Game of Thrones,” is in talks to star as Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video series based on “Tomb Raider.” She may be joined by veteran actress Sigourney Weaver, according to reports.

Deadline first reported that Weaver is currently negotiating a role in the series, though details haven’t been finalized. The potential casting adds significant star power to the project, which is already generating buzz among fans of the iconic video game franchise.

Weaver is widely recognized for her portrayal of Ellen Ripley in the “Alien” films, and has also appeared in films such as “Avatar” (including the forthcoming “Fire and Ash”), “Ghostbusters,” “Gorillas in the Mist,” “Working Girl,” “The Defenders,” and the upcoming Star Wars installment “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” Recently, MovieZine’s editor-in-chief Alexander Kardelo attended a press conference with Weaver ahead of the release of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” where she discussed the film’s themes and her collaboration with James Cameron.

The “Tomb Raider” series will be spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creative force behind “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve.” Production is expected to begin in January, though a premiere date has not yet been announced. This adaptation reflects the growing trend of bringing popular video game properties to the small screen, offering new avenues for storytelling and audience engagement.

Prime Video is developing a number of other TV series based on video games, including:

  • Fallout”, with its second season set to launch in December.
  • God of War”, which recently secured a director and has already been greenlit for two seasons.
  • Mass Effect”, currently in the scripting phase and will feature an entirely new cast of characters.
