Social Security Payments Scheduled for Millions Next Week
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will disburse benefits to approximately 70 million recipients across the United States next week, continuing the agency’s November 2025 payment schedule.
Next Wednesday, November 12, checks will be issued to those receiving retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), or survivor benefits whose birth dates fall between the 1st and 10th of the month. Recipients who began claiming benefits before May 1997 will receive their November payment on Monday, November 3, while Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries received their payments a day early, on October 31, due to the start of November falling on a Saturday. This timely distribution is crucial for millions relying on these funds for essential living expenses.
The average monthly retirement benefit currently stands at $2,008.31, with a maximum benefit of $5,108 in 2025, according to the SSA. Disabled workers receive an average of $1,582.95 per month, and survivor benefit recipients average $1,575.30, while SSI beneficiaries receive $717.84. Almost all payments are now made electronically, either via direct deposit or the Direct Express Card, as the SSA transitions to a paperless system; you can learn more about electronic payment options on the SSA website. Beneficiaries will also see a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in their monthly payments beginning in January 2026, translating to an average increase of $56 for those receiving retirement benefits – a welcome change as the cost of living continues to rise. Despite the ongoing federal government shutdown, the SSA has affirmed that the distribution of benefits will continue uninterrupted, maintaining all scheduled payment dates. Agency officials stated that they are committed to ensuring beneficiaries receive their payments on time.
