Iowa Man Arrested for Allegedly Installing Hidden Cameras in Porta-Potties at Multiple Events
Des Moines, Iowa – A 32-year-old man was arrested yesterday and faces numerous charges after authorities allegedly linked him to the installation of hidden cameras inside portable restrooms at two separate Iowa events, potentially impacting dozens of victims, including children.
Tyler Pavlick, of Des Moines, is currently charged with seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor to engage in an act and three counts of invasion of privacy involving nudity, according to the Des Moines Police Department. The initial investigation began after a camera was discovered October 4th at Water Works Park during the Harvest & Handmade Fair. Police say the device was positioned under a toilet seat and recorded individuals using the facilities.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office announced a related investigation today, revealing a similar device was found September 23rd at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center. The discovery occurred during a cross-country meet hosted by the West Marshall Community School District, involving middle and high school students. According to a criminal complaint, Pavlick allegedly installed the camera at 3:39 p.m. before the races began. Authorities uncovered digital evidence connecting Pavlick to both incidents. Such cases highlight the growing concern over surveillance technology misuse and its impact on privacy.
Additional charges filed against Pavlick include 36 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor-cause to engage in an act, one count of sexual exploitation of a minor to promote film, and 52 counts of invasion of privacy involving nudity. He is currently held in the Polk County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court next Monday. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has stated her office will assist local prosecutors in pursuing the maximum penalties allowed by law.
