‘Sorce’ App Automates Job Applications, Sparks Debate Over Hiring Practices

A new mobile application called Sorce, designed to streamline the job search process by automating applications, has gained traction since its launch in August 2024, recording 7.5 million “swipes” as of today.

The platform, founded by a team known as “The Three D’s,” allows users to upload their resume once and then swipe right on jobs they’re interested in, and left on those they aren’t. When a user swipes right, an artificial intelligence agent automatically completes the application process, reducing what typically takes 15 minutes to just three seconds. Sorce has already submitted over one million applications, with users landing interviews and job offers at companies including Peloton, Robinhood, Bank of America, and Nvidia. This development comes as the job market remains competitive, and job seekers increasingly look for ways to gain an edge.

While many users praise the app’s efficiency – with some reporting it makes internship applications “much easier and quicker” – the “Tinder for jobs” approach has also drawn criticism. Some argue that automating applications removes the crucial human element from the hiring process. Concerns have been voiced online, with one user questioning if this is just another example of artificial intelligence encroaching on areas traditionally requiring human judgment. The debate mirrors broader discussions about the role of artificial intelligence in human resources.

The founders of Sorce contend that the current hiring system is riddled with inefficiencies, leading to mismatches between qualified candidates and ideal opportunities. They point to traditional methods like keyword-scanning and brief resume reviews as contributing factors, and suggest that their platform, inspired by the marketplace models of companies like Uber and Airbnb, can help address these issues. The app offers a free tier with five daily applications, and premium access for unlimited swipes at $15 per week or $40 per month.

Sorce plans to introduce employer tools and an AI matching engine in future updates, aiming to create a more efficient and effective hiring process for both job seekers and companies.
