Millions Expected to March Against Trump Policies in Nationwide Protests

Millions of demonstrators are expected to take to the streets across the United States today, October 18, 2025, to protest the policies of President Trump, continuing a movement that began in June.

The protests, organized by the No Kings movement, accuse the President of exhibiting authoritarian tendencies. The group initially gained prominence following a military parade held in June, which critics characterized as a display of personal vanity rather than a commemoration of the Army’s 250th anniversary. No Kings states that the administration has since “doubled down” on policies they oppose, including immigration detentions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), cuts to federal education and environmental programs, and concerns over gerrymandering.

Organizers estimate that over 5 million people participated in the June demonstrations, and anticipate an even larger turnout today. The protests have drawn sharp criticism from Republican officials, with House Speaker Mike Johnson labeling the event a “hate America rally.” Responding to inquiries about the protests, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson reportedly said, “Who cares?” Several Republican governors, including Glenn Youngkin of Virginia and Greg Abbott of Texas, have mobilized their states’ National Guards in preparation for potential unrest. Governor Abbott stated, “Violence and destruction will never be tolerated in Texas,” adding that the state would work with local law enforcement to arrest anyone engaging in violence or property damage. The American Civil Liberties Union has affirmed the right to peaceful protest.

Jim Chapdelaine, a lead organizer in Connecticut, emphasized the group’s commitment to non-violence, stating in a Tuesday interview, “It’s really important to build community and solidarity and unity, [and] especially important to do that in a very peaceful way.” These protests reflect a growing wave of opposition to the Trump administration’s policies, potentially influencing the political landscape heading into the 2026 midterm elections. State government resources are available for those seeking information on local responses to the demonstrations.

Officials are monitoring the situation closely and preparing for potential disruptions, while organizers maintain their commitment to peaceful demonstration.
