Zerafa, often labeled the “bad boy” of Australian boxing, has frequently made headlines with his outspoken remarks. However, those closest to the sport are quick to point out that his skills in the ring are often overlooked amidst the controversy.

Kell Brook, a British boxing superstar who faced Zerafa in a super-welterweight final eliminator in 2018, believes the Aussie fighter is “definitely underrated.” Brook secured a unanimous decision in that bout, but admitted Zerafa pushed him to the limit over 12 rounds.

“He did everything well [when we fought],” Brook told Fox Sports Australia this week. “He was very tough – could take a shot very well. He had a good right hand and a big heart. Zerafa was good at it all.”

When asked to predict a winner for the upcoming fight, Brook remained undecided. “It should be a really good fight, but I can’t pick a winner. It’s too close.”

Jeff Horn, another former world champion who knows Zerafa well, having fought him twice, also weighed in on the upcoming bout. Their rivalry produced some memorable moments in Australian boxing, with the pair splitting their two encounters over 19 intense rounds.

Zerafa shocked the boxing world in 2019 by stopping Horn, handing the former WBO welterweight champion a significant defeat. Horn later avenged the loss in a closely contested decision in Brisbane.

Horn agreed that Zerafa’s outspoken nature sometimes overshadows his talent. “That’s fair,” he told Fox Sports Australia. “He’s a good boxer, he’s fit and definitely one of the best guys to watch out there at the moment. He’s got a good jab, he moves well – he does everything well. I definitely underestimated him the first time I fought him. He hit me with some good shots.”

Regarding advice for Tszyu, Horn stressed the importance of a smart approach. “Be smart,” he explained. “I feel like if Nikita is to win this one he’ll have to be smart and not go in all guns blazing like he sometimes likes to do. He sometimes gets caught in a gun fight. I don’t think he should make this a gun fight this time.”

Zerafa’s most recent defeat came in a world title bout against Erislandy Lara, who stopped him in the second round.

Horn believes Tszyu’s southpaw stance could present a challenge for Zerafa. “He’ll be watchful, I guess,” said Horn. “I’m sure he’s versed other southpaws that he has been able to take care of pretty comfortably, but that last knockout against Lara might give him nightmares.”

When asked for his prediction, Horn sees a cautious start evolving into an intriguing battle. “It’s really interesting. I think it will be caution at the beginning, for a round or two, and then I think there will be moves from both of them. There may be a bit of a sprint in there to see if they can catch the other with good shots. I think they both want to see blood in this one and get the other one out of there.”

Ultimately, Horn leans towards a Zerafa victory, though he acknowledges the fight is incredibly close. “I think Zerafa will win – I’m not sure how. Maybe decision. I think he will be a little bit better than Nikita in there. It’s a tough one to pick, though.”
