A serious traffic accident involving three vehicles snarled traffic on the D2 motorway near Bratislava late monday, leaving three individuals injured and prompting significant detours. The incident, occurring just before 8:45 PM at kilometer 50, has led authorities to close a portion of the highway and redirect traffic onto the D4, impacting commuters traveling towards the capital. While the exact cause remains under examination, initial reports suggest icy road conditions may have contributed to the Lexus driver losing control, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by late-season weather in the region.

BRATISLAVA – Polícia má v neskorých večerných hodinách pred frekventovaným úsekom D2 v smere do Bratislavy čo robiť. Došlo totiž k vážnej dopravnej nehode, kde sa zranili traja ľudia. Náraz priam zrámoval jedno z áut a polícia musí odkláňať dopravu.

According to police reports, the chain of events began when a Lexus lost control while transitioning from the D4 highway onto the D2. “Today, shortly before 8:45 PM, we received a report on line 158 regarding a traffic accident on the D2 motorway, at kilometer 50 in the direction of Bratislava,” said Michal Szeiff, a spokesperson for the Bratislava Regional Police.

Investigators believe the Lexus slid for reasons that are still under investigation and collided with a guardrail. “The driver of the Lexus exited the vehicle, at which point a BMW crashed into the stationary Lexus,” Szeiff explained.

The occupants of the BMW sustained injuries in the collision. “As a result of the crash, three people in the BMW were injured,” Szeiff stated. “Traffic police are currently diverting traffic from kilometer 49.5 of the D2 motorway towards Bratislava onto the D4, directing drivers towards Volkswagen and Záhorská Bystrica.”

Authorities are urging drivers in the area to exercise increased caution and follow the instructions of police officers and any traffic signage. The incident underscores the potential dangers of driving in inclement weather or during periods of reduced visibility.
