A Russian drone attack damaged a building housing the offices of Ukraine’s public broadcaster, Suspilne, and the Dnieper Ukrainian Radio station in the city of Dnipro overnight, Reuters reported.
According to Vladyslav Haydanenko, the acting governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, where Dnipro is the administrative center, Russian drones targeted the area late on February 29. The attack injured two people and sparked several fires, also causing damage to residential buildings and city infrastructure.
Suspilne reported that the strike ignited a fire, blew out windows and doors, and caused damage to the floors and roof of the building. Fortunately, no staff were present inside at the time of the attack.
The broadcaster released a photograph showing a gaping hole in the building’s concrete floors, with exposed metal rebar, dangling wires, and collapsed ceiling panels visible below. The attack on critical infrastructure highlights the ongoing vulnerability of media organizations in the conflict zone.
Suspilne is Ukraine’s national public radio and television company, operating television, radio, and online news services through a network of regional channels across the country.
Dnipro, a major industrial city in Ukraine, and the wider Dnipropetrovsk region have been repeatedly targeted by Russian missile and drone strikes throughout nearly four years of war. The continued attacks underscore the escalating intensity of the conflict and its impact on civilian areas.
