FanDuel Partners with Amazon for Interactive NBA Coverage
FanDuel has become the first official sponsor of Amazon’s Prime Video NBA coverage, introducing a new “Odds View” graphical interface that integrates live betting odds directly into the viewing experience.
The partnership, announced today, goes beyond traditional sponsorship by allowing viewers to toggle an “Odds View” on their screen, displaying real-time betting information and, with account authentication, tracking individual wagers. This marks the first time a national broadcaster has offered such an interactive feature, mirroring a similar, smaller-scale partnership FanDuel has with Main Street sports since October. “Having this device talk to the big screen in your living room, we think, is really illustrative of the future of potentially all TV viewing, particularly sports,” said Mike Raffensperger, FanDuel’s president of sports.
FanDuel’s investment in the Amazon partnership is “material,” representing one of the company’s largest sponsorships, and reflects a strategic alignment with Amazon’s technology-focused approach to sports broadcasting, following the success of Amazon Web Services’ involvement in sports. Raffensperger explained the decision, stating, “The NBA is a critically important sport to our business… our cultures are really well aligned; we’re both tech companies, both really obsessed with great customer experiences.” He added that while the specific financial details remain undisclosed, FanDuel is “leaning into this partnership in a material way” and maintains a history of “financial discipline.”
The collaboration comes as the NBA seeks to bolster viewership after a slight decline last year, and FanDuel is also expanding its engagement with women’s basketball, citing significant growth in betting volume, particularly during the summer months, and partnerships with the Indiana Fever and the WNBA itself. FanDuel’s broader media strategy, managed by Horizon, encompasses out-of-home advertising, social media, programmatic advertising, podcasting, and influencer collaborations with figures like Rob Gronkowski and Bill Simmons. The increased investment in sports marketing is a growing trend, as sportsbooks seek to capitalize on the expanding legal sports betting market in the United States.
Officials stated they anticipate the interactive feature will drive increased engagement with both the game and the FanDuel platform, and are optimistic about the potential for similar integrations across other sports and broadcasting platforms in the future.
