Hawks Sign Dyson Daniels to Four-Year, $100 Million Extension

Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels has agreed to a four-year, $100 million rookie contract extension, securing his future with the team after a breakout season.

Daniels earned the extension after being named the NBA’s most improved player and finishing as the runner-up for defensive player of the year last season. He led the league with 3.01 steals per game, becoming the first player since Alvin Robertson in 1990-91 to average at least three steals, and set a franchise record with 229 total steals. He also led the NBA with 443 deflections while averaging a career-high 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in all 76 games.

“We are beyond thrilled to reach a long-term deal with Dyson, and we are excited to watch him continue to grow with our group,” Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh said in a statement. The Hawks acquired Daniels in a trade with New Orleans before the 2024-25 season, a move that now appears to be a significant win for the franchise. For more on the NBA, visit NBA.com.

The Australian native’s exceptional defensive impact and surprising offensive contributions have quickly made him a key component of the Hawks’ backcourt alongside Trae Young. This extension signals the Hawks’ commitment to building around their young core.

Team officials stated they are eager to see Daniels continue his development and contribute to the Hawks’ success in the years to come.
