Minnesota Man Arrested for Beach Harassment in Naples, Florida

A 44-year-old man from Minnesota was arrested today after allegedly harassing a woman at a Naples beach, according to local authorities.

Douglas Pederson approached the woman while she was lying on the sand near 11th Avenue South on Monday evening, and investigators say he began hovering over her. The woman reported to police that Pederson touched her multiple times and refused to leave until she agreed to meet him the following day. He allegedly provided a false name and a phone number linked to a disposable cellphone. Surveillance footage showed Pederson being picked up by his wife, who had their two children in the vehicle.

Police state that Pederson returned to the same beach at the same time yesterday, anticipating the meeting. Instead of the woman, officers were waiting and took him into custody without incident. Authorities have confirmed Pederson has a prior conviction in Minnesota for indecent exposure, a crime that can carry significant social and legal consequences. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) provides resources for those affected by sexual harassment and assault.

The incident has raised concerns among residents and visitors about safety and accountability in public spaces. The City of Naples is reviewing beach safety protocols in light of this event. Officials stated they will continue to patrol public areas to ensure the safety of all individuals.
