Indonesia’s second-largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah, has launched a new electronic membership card system, streamlining access for its millions of members nationwide. The Electronic Card of Muhammadiyah Membership, or E-KTAM, is now accessible through the MASA mobile request, a move officials say is part of a broader effort to modernize the organization and improve member engagement [[1]]. this digital initiative, developed in partnership with Muhammadiyah Software Labs and VIDA, aims to provide a single digital identity for all members and marks Muhammadiyah as a leader in digital conversion among Indonesian religious organizations [[3]].
The Indonesian Islamic organization Muhammadiyah is making it easier for its members to obtain official identification, hoping to boost participation and streamline administrative processes. The organization’s leader is encouraging members to register for an electronic membership card through a new mobile application.
Muhammadiyah General Chairman Haedar Nashir announced Saturday, December 13, that members can now apply for the Electronic Card of Muhammadiyah Membership (E-KTAM) through the MASA application. Previously, members had to visit Muhammadiyah offices in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, or regional branches to obtain the card.
“For those who don’t yet have an E-KTAM, please take care of it now – it’s easier than ever, even for younger members,” Nashir said during the E-KTAM launch at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS). “All you need to do is use the application.”
The move aims to remove logistical hurdles for members seeking validation of their affiliation with the organization. Members can now complete the process from anywhere, including their homes.
“You don’t need to come to the office to get an E-KTAM, but you are welcome to visit,” Nashir added.
Beyond simply serving as a digital membership card, the MASA application also provides access to resources related to Muhammadiyah teachings, the Quran, and a Qibla direction finder, among other features. The application also facilitates the payment of membership dues.
“If you have an outstanding balance in the application, please pay it promptly,” Nashir urged members. The application serves as a consolidation point for member contributions.
