Philadelphia Launches $2 Million Emergency Food Support Program

The City of Philadelphia today announced the One Philly SNAP Support Program, a $2 million initiative designed to provide immediate food assistance to residents impacted by recent lapses in SNAP benefits and the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health is partnering with the Reinvestment Fund to distribute grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to organizations and individuals focused on delivering healthy, culturally appropriate food to those experiencing food insecurity. Applications were issued yesterday, November 3, 2025, and are due by 5:00 p.m. on November 5, 2025, though late submissions may be considered based on fund availability. This program is crucial as the disruption to SNAP benefits leaves many families vulnerable to hunger.

Grant recipients will be required to submit weekly reports detailing the number of food distribution locations, individuals and families served, and the volume and types of food distributed. The Health Department reserves the right to request additional data to assess program performance and ensure efficient resource allocation, emphasizing frequent distribution – ideally weekly or daily – with the majority of funds dedicated to food purchases. Information about additional city permits needed for distribution can be found on the City of Philadelphia’s website.

The Health Department is hosting office hours via Zoom to answer questions about the grant program and application process: today, November 4, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and tomorrow, November 5, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Applications can be submitted via email or in person at 7801 Essington Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19153; more details and the application form are available here. Officials stated they aim to respond to applications within three business days.
