Russian Forces Advance in Pokrovsk Amid Dense Fog, Ukraine Reports Worsening Front Line

Russian troops have made further gains in the strategically important city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, aided by thick fog that has hampered Ukrainian reconnaissance efforts, while facing increased pressure in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukraine’s 7th Airborne Assault Corps reported that Moscow is intensifying its efforts to encircle Ukrainian forces in the ruined city, taking advantage of the poor visibility. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated yesterday that the situation in Pokrovsk remains difficult, with an estimated 300-500 Russian soldiers now present. A viral video shows Russian soldiers traveling through the area in civilian vehicles, confirmed by geolocation as the southern outskirts of Pokrovsk on the Selidove-Pokrovsk highway. The fall of Pokrovsk would represent a significant strategic loss for Ukraine, potentially opening a path further west.

A drone pilot with the call-sign “Goose” from the “Shershni Dovbusha” unit explained that the fog has allowed Russian forces to launch assaults using vehicle columns, which would normally be quickly targeted by drones. “We might hold positions in one building, but the enemy can be in the next one. They’re trying to get behind our backs,” Goose said, describing the close-quarters combat. Army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi also reported a “significant worsening” of the situation in the Zaporizhzhia region, with the loss of three settlements, though he emphasized Pokrovsk remains the primary focus of Russian activity. Russian forces are attempting to encircle Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, while also targeting logistical routes supporting Ukrainian troops, employing both drone and ground assaults. Ukrainian military analyst Kostyantyn Mashovets noted that Russian forces have specifically targeted Ukrainian FPV pilots to disrupt reconnaissance. Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson of the Joint Forces Operation, denied claims of Kupyansk being surrounded but acknowledged a difficult situation in the south of the town. Ukrainian forces have pushed back Russian troops from Suvorove and Rodynske to counter the encirclement attempt, as detailed in DeepState’s live map of the conflict.

Officials say Ukrainian troops are working to stabilize the front line and repel ongoing Russian advances, with continued fighting expected in the coming days.
